Painterly Woodcut Printing

The Language Of Wood

From Brush to Block:

An Introduction to Painterly Woodcut Printing

Step into the world of printmaking with a twist! Learn how to blend your love for painting with the timeless art of woodcuts in this hands-on workshop.

What Is Painterly Woodcut Printing?

This technique bridges the gap between the spontaneity of painting and the graphic boldness of relief printing. Instead of the traditional method of carving separate blocks for every colour, we use a single block to create two distinct layers:

  1. A Monoprint Layer: An atmospheric, painted background.

  2. A Relief Layer: A bold, carved "key block" printed in black (or a dark color) on top.
