Falling Rhythm, Taranaki Falls, Tongariro National Park

The Tongariro National Park is on my door step, providing endless inspiration through tramping and skiing in the area.

Each coloured woodblock is printed by hand using professional quality printing inks and traditional hand carving tools. No digital processes have been used in the creation of this image.

The image was drawn onto wood, then using inks the colour was added with a brush to provide an impressionistic affect. This process provides four or sometimes five coloured prints. Each print will have a different intensity of colour. The first will be the most intense and the last print the colour is more subtle. Consequently no two prints are the same. Therefore, only one print is on sale at a time. The image you see is the image you will receive once purchased.

Once the colour edition size has been printed, the wood is carved into leaving only the detail of the lines, known as the key block. The final process is when the key block is inked using a brayer (roller) and placed on top of the coloured prints and finally printed on top of the coloured prints.

Once this edition is finished no more can be made. There are only four of these prints, similar but not identical in colour.
